(Cleveland) - Cleveland has been selected by Democrats as one of 15 cities where they'd like to nominate their candidate for president in 2016.
"I'm conviced if the Democrats come to Ohio we win the presidency in 2016," said Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern.
Other nearby cities being considered include Columbus, Indianapolis, Detroit and Pittsburgh. Atlanta, Chicago, Las Vegas, Miami, Nashville, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and Salt Lake City are the other cities on the list.
The ability to raise money to host the event is said to be a big factor.
"Both Cleveland and Columbus will now have to put extensive proposals together, including budgets, and commitments from the private sector to help offset the cost," Redfern said.
Cities have until early June to submit their proposals.
Cleveland is also a semi-finalist for the Republican National Convention along with Cincinnati.
