(Cleveland) - A man has been shot dead in a confrontation with a Cleveland police officer Tuesday morning.
Police chief Calvin Williams says that officers were investigating a shooting near East 140th and Kinsman. Police from the Fourth District came upon a man they suspected of being the shooter.
That man allegedly pointed a gun at a police officer and said something. The chief says the officer took evasive maneuvers, but the man still pointed the gun at the officer. That's when the officer fired three shots at the man.
Chief Williams says the department's Use of Deadly Force team is still investigating the shooting, along with the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's office and the city prosecutor's office.
The officer involved was described by Williams as a veteran of the force. He will be on paid administrative leave until further notice, as is standard departmental policy.
