Watch Blake Shelton Surprise Craig Morgan On Kelly Clarkson's Show

Craig Morgan stopped by The Kelly Clarkson Show to promote his latest single inspired by the loss of his son three years ago called, "The Father, My Son and the Holy Ghost." Little did he know that he'd also get to see one of his longtime friends, Blake Shelton, who was there to surprise him.

"I was so moved by it [the song] that I wanted to surprise you, so I have someone here to see you...come on out, Blake," Clarkson tells Morgan.

As Shelton walked out on the stage, Morgan got up in excitement to thank Clarkson for the surprise as he welcomed his old friend with a hug.

"The Father, My Son and the Holy Ghost" was written by Morgan following the loss of his 19-year-old son, Jerry, who died in a tubing accident in July of 2016. Shelton has known the pain that comes with loss as his brother Richie died when he was a kid. Although he can relate in a way, Shelton says the reason the song impacted him was because of his friendship with Morgan.

"Gwen and I were actually at the funeral [of Morgan's son] and I didn't connect it to anything...it was his story and it hit me that hard just knowing him," Shelton explains. "It's a horrible tragedy, I can't even imagine, but man it's just such a great, great song."

Shelton says that Morgan actually send him the song in a text message that he didn't reply to for about a month.

"I'm a great friend," Shelton says jokingly. "When the kids are around I have zero access to my phone, and I even knew that there was an attachment there but I couldn't get my phone back."

When Shelton finally had the opportunity to listen, he says "I was by myself at the house and I lost my mind, I literally lost my mind."

Last month, Shelton started campaigning on social media to get Morgan's single to the No. 1 on the all-genre iTunes Songs chart. "I would gladly give up my spot on country radio to get this song on.." Shelton shared on Twitter. "Wow Craig Morgan. You blow me away brother. There's nothing easy or fun about writing a song like this but sometimes it's just something you gotta do."

Shelton kept the tweets coming to encourage people to download the song that he claims might be "the best song written in decades." Country singer, Luke Combs and celebrity, Ellen DeGeneres both joined in the push as well. On September 12, the song officially hit the top of the all-genre charts.
