Zac Brown Band's Daniel de los Reyes Creates Face Shields From Drum Heads

Zac Brown Band's drummer, Daniel de los Reyes, is stepping up to help others amid the coronavirus pandemic. While stuck at home, quarantined like many others, he decided to help make face shields for the first responders who need them most.

"Like you all, I'm at home bored, anxious and I feel helpless," Reyes says in a video on Instagram. "I was trying to come up with some sort of way to help out and I came up with this."

Reyes continued on to explain his creative idea to transform old drum heads into useful face shields. He shows off his first prototype with a thumbs up adding that he plans to make more and then deliver them to local hospitals.

He concludes his video with a final message encouraging people to "stay home, save lives and stay healthy."

The caption of the video includes an additional note to fans from Reyes. "I know we will prevail from this very difficult time but we must come together as human beings and care for each other now more than ever. It is pretty amazing that there are thousands of people working together and sharing information from all walks of life in order to find a cure. Together we can do this."

Reyes isn't the only member of Zac Brown Band helping others during this difficult time. Coy Bowles, a guitar player for the band, recently released his children's album, Music for Tiny Humans.

Originally the album wasn't going to be released until May, but Bowles decided to push up the release date to March 27 in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. "I was supposed to release it in May but there’s too many kids with their parents at home right now in a crazy time," he explains on Instagram. "It’s 100% positive and it needs to be out now not later. Spirits lifted by song and music."

A portion of the proceeds will go towards Save the Children, an organization providing children in need with food and other basic necessities while schools are closed due to the virus, and MusiCares's Coronavirus Relief Fund to help musicians who are out of work during this time.
