Emmy Russell shared a new update after welcoming Baby No. 2 with husband Tyler Ward.

Russell posted an adorable photo with her baby on Instagram on Sunday (October 25). The new mother of two, a former American Idol contestant and granddaughter of late legend Loretta Lynn, recently welcomed son Tyler Thomas. He joins big sister Taylor Ray (Raydiant) Ward, on January 31, 2025. Russell shared on her Instagram story on Monday morning (October 26) that Tyler Thomas, who goes by Tommy, will be six weeks old on Tuesday (October 27).

“Life with Tyler Thomas has been so sweet,” Russell wrote in her caption on Instagram on Sunday. “He refuses to let me put him down and we’re finally down to about four wake ups a night instead of six.. so we’re making progress! Taylor is still adjusting to life with a baby brother. She’s suddenly very interested in the baby swing she definitely can’t fit in haha…. but we’ve gone from screaming when I held him to wanting to help feed him and give him kisses. She wouldn’t even look at me the first couple days! She only wanted grandma, oh loorrrddy. She’s actually more jealous when dad holds him. ‘ba ba! da da!’

Russell went on to share that she “had a great delivery but sadly ended up hemorrhaging again and needing two blood transfusions, just like with Taylor. It was scary, but somehow the fear fades a little when you’re holding your baby.

“The second time around feels different,” she continued. “I think because Taylor taught me just how fast it all goes. I’m soaking up the little moments more, less frustrated with the sleepless nights… quite less critical of my postpartum body and somehow the house is cleaner this time thank gosh!

“I used to worry motherhood would hold me back from music and the dreams I had for myself,” she wrote. “And honestly life looks a lot different than I imagined.. music changes, friendships shift, people see you as shiny one season and not so shiny the next. But something I’ve been really grateful for is knowing that God still sees me as Emmy. Not for what I’ve accomplished or what I can give.. but just as his daughter. There’s something comforting about that… especially in the quieter seasons.. and also your baby’s always see you as momma, no matter what in the world you do..

“Tommy is the smiliest little squish,” Russell shared. “He smiles when I sing or make a high pitched ‘ewwwww’ sound, and I’ll do it a hundred times just to see that smile again. Family photos coming soon but until then here’s me and my little Tyler Thomas.”

Ward was first to share news of his son’s arrival on Instagram last month. The singer-songwriter, producer and founder of Nashville-based creative community Song House, posted on September 18, “My Songhouse homework is late, but I have a pretty good excuse… WE HAD A BABY BOY 😭💙 Still at the hospital, but I promised I’d do my homework, so here it is. A little late, a whole lot happy. …YAY! 🥹” He replied to a commenter, “Momma is doing great, we’re both just soaking him in.” He also said at the time, “we’re over the moon.”

Russell welcomed a baby into the family in 2026, along with Thomas Rhett, Luke Combs, Parker McCollum, iHeartRadio’s Bobby Bones and others in the country music community. See the list of pregnancy announcements here.
