Amanda Bynes has reportedly suffered a relapse and entered a mental health facility, as per a new report from TMZ.
On Friday (March 1), the celebrity gossip outlet reported that the 32-year-old former child star checked into an undisclosed rehabilitation center in Los Angeles back in January as the "result of a blackslide" that started months earlier. Apparently, Bynes' comeback story for PAPER brought too much stress and pressure to be back in the spotlight. "We're told the pressure of being back in the public eye, plus auditioning in Hollywood again was just too much, too soon for Amanda," the site reported. Insiders admitted that she's getting treatment for drug addiction and her mental health issues with her parents offering support every step of the way. Bynes is currently under a conservatorship started by her parents, but it's been spearheaded by a mental health professional since 2014.
In her cover story for PAPER, Bynes revealed that her 2006 role in She's the Man tossed her into a severe depression. "When the movie came out and I saw it I went into a deep depression for 4-6 months because I didn't like how I looked when I was a boy... I've never told anyone that... [It was] a super strange and out-of-body experience," she explained, adding, "It just really put me into a funk."
As for her retirement from acting at age 24, Bynes told the magazine that it boiled down to her body image issues and spiraling drug use. "I literally couldn't stand my appearance in [Easy A] and I didn't like my performance," she admitted. "I was absolutely convinced I needed to stop acting after seeing it. I was high on marijuana when I saw that but for some reason it really started to affect me. I don't know if it was a drug-induced psychosis or what, but it affected my brain in a different way than it affects other people. It absolutely changed my perception of things."
