Taking pictures of a partial eclipse with your phone could damage your eyes and your camera.
The April 8th eclipse will be total for a narrow strip across a dozen or so states, but in areas where the eclipse is partial, extra precautions should be taken before taking pictures.
Remember that it’s not safe to look at the eclipse through an unfiltered camera, even when wearing protection on your eyes.
You'll need to use the same material used in eclipse viewing glasses to put over your phone's lens.
Automatic settings won’t work with the filter, so change to manual. There are also smartphone filter kits available online.
