Jetblue is switching to “surge pricing” for baggage fees.

The fee will jump on days the airline considers to be peak… which turns out to be about half the year.

Here’s a catch: if you add a checked bag during booking and at least 24 hours before check-in, prices are $35 for off-peak dates and $40 for peak dates.

If you add the baggage after that window, the cost jumps to $45 and an industry-high $50.

Jetblue says “While we don’t like increasing fees, we are making these adjustments to help get our company back to profitability and cover the increased costs.”

The company says it has not seen a profit since before COVID.
