A few weeks ago, during a routine traffic stop, a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper rescued a six-year-old girl who’d been reported kidnapped. The trooper pulled over an SUV for a traffic violation and noticed a young girl inside with two adult men. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the front seat passenger had an outstanding warrant for kidnapping the child just over a month earlier.
The vehicle’s driver also had a serious criminal history, including past convictions for homicide and weapons violations. A local sheriff’s deputy assisted in the stop, and both men were taken into custody at the scene. The child was safely removed from the vehicle without incident.
Initially, the girl gave a false name and birth date, having been coached by her captors. The trooper worked to calm her, eventually learning her real name and confirming she was the victim in an active kidnapping case.
