$50K Raised For Teen Who Worked Burger King Shift Hours After Graduating

Just hours after graduating from Mills Creek High School last week, 18-year-old Mykale Baker from Dacula, Georgia, had to rush to his job at Burger King. He was still wearing his graduation attire when he arrived, catching the attention of customer Maria Mendoza, who recorded a video of the grad during his shift. Moved by his humility and work ethic, Mendoza later launched a crowdfund to support his college plans.

The campaign quickly gained traction, raising over $20,000 from more than a thousand donors. Mendoza returned to the Burger King a few days later to surprise Baker with the good news. A video of the emotional moment shows them hugging, with the teen overwhelmed by the generosity of strangers who had rallied behind him.

After being unsure about how he would afford college, Baker expressed deep gratitude and shared that he‘d been considering a gap year to earn some money. With the donations, now at over $50,000, he’s planning on enrolling in technical college to study a mechanical trade. He thanked everyone who contributed so far, saying that he never imagined something like this would happen to him.
