A Clermont, Florida, resident accidentally left $2,000 in cash at an ATM earlier this week. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office says the person mistakenly believed their transaction had been canceled and drove away without realizing the machine had dispensed the money shortly after.
The driver of the vehicle next in line noticed the cash and attempted to alert the person who left it. When they weren’t able to, the honest citizen followed the bank's advice and turned the full amount over to the sheriff’s office, placing the money in an envelope labeled with the date, time, and location it was found.
The sheriff’s office was able to return the money to its rightful owner later. In a statement posted to social media, the department praised the good Samaritan’s act, saying it showed integrity and community spirit, the kind that helps to restore faith in humanity.
