Drone Finds Missing Woman With Dementia Safe In Woods

On Monday morning, a 70-year-old woman with dementia went missing in Westmoreland, Tennessee, after wandering into the woods. Police arrived quickly and began searching, but knowing time was critical, they called in help from the Sumner County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) and the Sheriff’s Office. Soon after, EMA teams arrived and launched two drones to scan the area.

Within 10 minutes, one of the drones spotted her, and officers were able to reach her right away. She was then taken for a medical evaluation by Sumner County EMS as a precaution. Photos shared by the Westmoreland Police Department show her hugging her rescuers after being brought back safely.

The successful search was credited to the teamwork of local law enforcement, emergency responders, and drone operators. According to the Sumner County EMA Director, this was the 18th time a missing person has been found with the help of the drone program. Police said they were grateful to all of the agencies involved for their quick and coordinated response.
