On Saturday morning, a good Samaritan rescued an 11-year-old autistic girl from a South Florida lake despite not knowing how to swim. Mia Garcia was collecting shells along the lakeshore while at Lakes Park in south Fort Myers with her grandmother, Dawn Louchart, when she accidentally slipped into the lake. Mia is a good swimmer, but couldn’t get out of the water because of the slimy lakebed.
Nearby, Bridgett Addison heard the cries for help and rushed to the water. Even though she doesn’t know how to swim, she pulled Mia away from the slippery edge and managed to lift her to safety, falling and injuring herself in the process. She later said she would help anyone in need, no matter who they are.
Mia says that while she was in the water, she was terrified that an alligator might drag her under, but thanks to the rescuer’s bravery, she was saved. Mia’s grandmother says they’re deeply grateful for Addison, calling her proof that good people are out there.
