A piglet in Iowa is getting a fresh start after leaping from the back of a truck driving down the highway. Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control (CRACC) announced on social media that the young pig, Peppa, made what they called a “daring leap” before being safely rounded up with the help of Cedar Rapids Police and the Department of Natural Resources. They say she was fortunate to escape with only minor injuries.
According to CRACC, Peppa suffered a few bruises and some road rash but is otherwise doing well. Staff say that she enjoyed what may have been her first taste of grass and received plenty of cuddles from her caretakers. She’s also receiving veterinary care from Dr. Ackman and the state veterinarian for her continued recovery.
CRACC says it’s working closely with Iowa Farm Sanctuary to provide Peppa with a safe, permanent home. The organization adds that she won’t be available for adoption, but thanks the community for their support and promises to keep sharing updates on Peppa’s journey. Staff describe her as “destined for hogging the spotlight” and say they're grateful that she’ll now have the chance to live out her life in comfort.
