Earlier this week, a dog fell about 40 feet from a seaside cliff at Fort Funston in San Francisco, according to the San Francisco Fire Department. The dog, described as brown and speckled and believed to be a German Shorthaired Pointer, landed on a ledge and waited there. Firefighters responded to the scene and prepared a rope rescue.
A firefighter wearing a harness rappelled down the cliff while the dog paced on the narrow ledge. Once the rescuer reached it, the pup stayed still long enough to be secured to a carabiner. The rescue team then guided the dog safely back up the cliff to the grassy area above.
Fortunately, it was not injured and was reunited with its owner shortly after. The fire department notes the dog showed its appreciation by giving out grateful kisses to all the members of the rescue team.
