“Miracle” Baby With Just 1% Chance Of Survival At Birth Turns 1

Born last July in Chickasaw, Alabama, nearly 20 weeks early, Herron "Tripp" Abney III weighed only 15.3 ounces and faced a grim prognosis, with doctors giving him just a 1% chance of survival. Despite those odds, he recently celebrated his first birthday, marking a significant milestone in his remarkable journey.

Tripp's mother, Trashinda Gavin, went into early labor after falling on the stairs last summer. Following his birth, the preemie spent five months in the neonatal intensive care unit at USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital, where his condition steadily improved. Gavin expressed deep gratitude to her son’s medical team, including nurses, doctors, and specialists, who played a crucial role in his recovery and care.

Tripp's first birthday celebration was joyful, with his family dressed in Superman costumes to honor his strength and resilience. His inspirational story has deeply touched his family and their community. Tripp's aunt, Telisha Sims, says they never lost hope and she calls her nephew a "miracle" and a testament to perseverance and faith.
